Earl A. McCoy, Sr. ACB

President/Founder

Earl McCoy has a certificate as an Advance Communication Bronze Speaker from International Toast Masters; an Organization for Professional Motivational Speakers. Mr. McCoy also used his specialized speaking techniques and skills to win several Motivational Speaking contests within Connecticut. Mr. McCoy founded The Making A Difference Foundation, Inc., (MADF) in July of 1998.

Mr. McCoy has been employed for approximately 24 years for Southern New England Telecommunications/ SBC during which time Earl has held several positions within the company. Through his involvement in these different career areas, Earl has extensions experience in the technical field, customer relations, consulting, and conflict resolution.

Through his employment at AT&T, Mr. McCoy has received certificates from J. Howard & Associate; an Efficacy Institute of Learning based in Lexington, Massachusetts. Then institute is a not for profit organization providing training, consulting services to schools across the United States. Earl has received certificates for Professionals of Color and Risk Taking for Professional Development.

Mr. McCoy is married with three children, two son-in-laws, and one grandson and actively involved with their academic, scholastic and/or professional interests. In addition to his children activities, Mr. McCoy along with his wife is also committed to the community. His involvement is extensive, being President/Founder of MAKING A DIFFERENCE FOUDATION which focuses on the importance of Education, Personal Development and Citizenship for the youth in the community.

In the fall of 1999, Mr. McCoy presented a program designed to convey three key messages to inner city high-school students.

Mr. McCoy has spoken to thousands of students, parents, and school officials to date.

As the President of Making A Difference Foundation, Inc. Mr. McCoy has establish seminars and speakers forums throughout high schools in New Haven and Hamden areas. He has also created a community network of students from Hillhouse, Wilbur Cross, Hyde Leadership, Eli Whitney Vocational, Career High, and Connecticut Job Corp. Whereas, these students called the U.AL.C.E.E.D.I.S. group meets once a month with Making A Difference Foundation, Inc. members to discuss their concerns, reduce the drop out rate, promote continuous education, and community involvement (i.e., feeding the homeless, collecting food for needy families, distributing holiday toys.) Earl also crated an intern program that placed several high school students at various Corporations.

Southern New England Telecommunication has honored Mr. McCoy twice by receiving the Nova award and the Teamwork Leadership Conference Award Mr. McCoy was also awarded; the prestigious Encouragement Award (working with Youth) from the New Haven County Silver Shields, Certificate of Recognition from the Superintendent of New Haven Public Schools, and a Certificate in recognition of Telecom Synergy in Action Conference-DL from SBC a global network. Mr. McCoy was nominated by Fox 61’s WTIC TV for an Unsung Heroes award and received a certificate from Hispanic Association of Communications Employees (HACEMOS) SBC/SNET for participation in their annual technology day.

In 2001, Mr. McCoy was elected President of Connecticut’s Chapter of Community Network, which is made up of African American Telecommunication Professionals and recognized by SBC. Furthermore, this past September prior to the Yale and Harvard game, Mr. McCoy received an award from Dichello Distributor’s Inc for continuously conveying positive messages pertaining to: continuous learning, no underage drinking and responsible adult drinking habits. Furthermore, Earl received proclamations for “It Takes a Village Celebration” from the Governor of Connecticut John G. Rowland and New Haven’s Mayor John DeStefano, Jr. In 2003, Mr. McCoy was awarded a plague for his dedication for working with youth at-risk. In 2004, Mr. McCoy was also awarded a certificate of Competent Toastmaster, for Professional Speakers, from the Toastmaster International Communication and Leadership Program. Moreover, in 2005 Mr. McCoy was nominated and voted in as Greater New Haven Toastmaster’s District 53 President. In July of 2005, Mr. McCoy was awarded a plague for his outstanding service and dedication during Connecticut’s Chapter of Community Network seventh annual conference. Also during 2005, Mr. McCoy was awarded a citation, from Alderwoman Dolores Colon, for his outerstanding community service during with Multi-cultural event that was held at Hill House High School.
